Friday 03/05/2010

Greetings once again folks! Time for an update to let everyone know what's coming up for the MHCC in the near future -

First, thanks to everyone who helped put the display at the gun show together in February! Charlie Brickett, Eddie & Pam Daivis, Gerry Jones, Junior Shove, Doug Imes, and Chuck Shook (I apologize if I forgot anyone) - thanks to all their efforts, the MHCC was awarded third prize for best exhibit! (second time we've done that!) Thanks guys!

Second, welcome to Cam Morehead (Westminster, SC), Joe Price (Ware Shoals, SC), Jeff Hogan (Pickens, SC), and Joe Pace and family (Pickens, SC) - all new members of the MHCC! Looking forward to working with you all!

And now for some upcoming events:

Saturday, 3 April 10: The MHCC will hold a formal meeting (one of two each year) at the Peach Blossom Cafe (intersection of SC Hwy 9 and Business I-85) at 1030 hrs. Purpose of the meeting will be to bring members up-to-date on several club initiatives; ie, federal 501(c)(3) status, safety policy, uniform policy, liability insurance, and up-coming events, etc.. * * * * *This will also be the time for members to pay their annualk dues if they have not already do so.* * * * *

Saturday, 17 April 10: Azalea Festival in Pickens, SC. The MHCC will be supporting this event. Junior Shove is the point of contact for this (864-506-1887 - cell or jrshove@yahoo.com). Junior, Martin Isetts, Gerry Jones, Jeff Hogan, and I have already conducted a recon of our assigned display area and there's plenty of room. The city is excited that we will display vehicles, uniforms, and equipment and is looking forward to it. (They have never had a military display before) Junior has also extended an invitiation to all veterans to visit the display. The display runs all day Saturday - though several MHCC members have already said they will probably stage some equip/vehicles Friday afternoon. More to come on this at the meeting!

Saturday, 24 Apr 10: American Legion "Veterans Appreciation Day", Gaffney, SC. The MHCC has agin been asked to support this event - which we've done for the past four or five years. Great event with a great turnout - public really gets involved. Chuck Shook will be pulling this one together so please let him know early what you will be able to provide . More to come on this at the meeting too!

Saturday, 28 Apr 10: Display at the Flea Market in Pickens, SC. This has been postponed because of all the other events at the same time - will try to reschedule!

Saturday, 1 May 10: Marine Corps & Goodwill "Mud Run"; the MHCC has been asked by the Marines and the Goodwill Industries to provide a military display at the Mud Run at the Donalson Center in Greenville, SC. This will be an all day event starting early Saturday morning - some MHCC members will probably be setting up Friday afternoon and staying the night on-site. They are expecting 4-5 thousand people to attend as spectators with up to 800 four person teams competing; ie, active duty military, reserve military, police/SWAT, fireman, civilians, etc.. My daughter and son-in-law ran it last year and it was a blast!!! I'll be pulling this one together so please let me know what you will be bringing so I can organize the space/layout! More on this one at the meeting too!

Other events of interest:

Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing Historical Airpower Show, 24-25 Apr 10, 1200 Echo Court, Falco Field, Peachtree City, GA 30296 (678-364-1110 or www.wwiidays.org)

Monday, 22 Mar 10 at 1900 hrs: Chapman Cultural Center, Spartanburg, SC - free concert; USAF Heritage Aire Celtic Ensemble - celebrates America's great cultural diversity by blending traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, and England with a contemporary musical style. (call 864-542-ARTS; tickets are free but are required)

Fri, Sat, Sun, 23-25 Apr 10: Chapman cultural Center, Spartanburg, SC - free concert; US Army Ground Forces Band, the "Jazz Guardians", pays tribute to the big bands of yesterday by performing the music made popular by such greats as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, and Woody Herman. Again, tickets are free but you must call 542-ARTS (no event time listed on brochure - call for times)

Other info: E.A.Patterson Parts & Equipment Retirement Sale; military & civilian vehicles, parts, equip from 1940's to present (OEM parts, GM, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, etc. All must go. Call 907-333-5682 or 1-866-333-5682 (Not sure how useful this will be to folks - address is in Alaska, but it might help some looking for that rare, last part!

Gerry Jones has a line on an M37 near the Georgia state line. All the parts are there (except tailgate) and the engine runs - guy is asking around $ 1500.00. Gerry syays its a great deal! If you're interested contact Gerry

Lastly, don't forget to check out the club website at www.milhcc.com. There's alot of good info on the site. Assuming we can get "hooked up" properly, Mike & Kathleen will put on a demonstration of the site for those intereeted at the meeting Saturday, 3 Apr 10.

Okay everyone, that's alot of info I know but I wanted to get it out so you all can plan your support - everyone cannot attend every event (nor are they expected to) but we have sufficient club members now that we can easily put on a good display for most events. Any level of support is appreciated - even if you only come for a few hours and can help "watch" over the displays of the other club members!

Thanks to all, the MHCC is off to a great start this year. Our reputation continues to grow and based on the public's comments, we're doing it the right way!

See you all at the meeting!

Greetings all! Just a quick update for the gun show in Greenville, SC this coming weekend:

Most of you already know the location but if not it's at the Carolina First Center by the downtown airport in Greenville, SC. Most of you have already coordinated with Eddie Davis (vehicles) and/or Gerry Jones (weapons) - based on that, we should have a good turn-out. Note the "focus" will be on weapons; however, other military displays would not be out of place; ie, uniforms, field equipment, weapons accessories, etc..

IMPORTANT: If you are attending and are bringing displays and have not already contacted Eddie or Gerry - do so ASAP! They need to plan the space and get sufficient tables ready

Eddie Davis will be on station at the gun show on Friday, 5 Feb 10 starting about 1300 hrs for those of you wanting to bring your vehicles/displays early - he should be there until 4 or 5. Recommend if you're coming Friday to give him a call so he can be on the lookout for you He will also be there early on Saturday - just call him so he can get you in to set-up.

All members are welcome to attend - we will need folks to help watch the displays and give the members who will be there most of the day a break every once in awhile. I believe the gates open at around 0900 and close at 1800 on Saturday and then open again on Sunday around 1000 and close at 1700.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there! Reminder: It's time for dues for 2010. I'll be there most of the time but you may pay your dues to Eddie or Pam Davis, Martin Isetts, or Gerry Jones. ( note: we will be conducting a club meeting in March [ date to be set soon ] so you will also have a chance to pay your dues there or you may mail them to Martin Isetts or myself. Please no cash through the mail - checks should be made out to "MHCC". Thanks!

See you soon - be careful out there!

1/20/2010

Hello everyone - time for another net call to bring everybody up-to-date and get the new started off right!

First - attached are the latest two issues of the MHCC newsletter for 2009. The first covers July, August, and September and the other covers October, November, and December. Issue two is way overdue; however, I had some technical problems which will go away when I get my new computer (soon I hope). Issue three is on time though. Again, thanks to Thomas Koenig for working his magic and overcoming the outdated technology of my computer and making it possible to transmit the newsletters via e-mail!

Couple of upcoming events:

(1) Monday, 25 January '10: The MHCC is supporting the grand opening of the new VA Clinic here in Spartanburg. We have been asked to be in place and set up no later than 0800 hrs. The plan is to use the display vehicles to block parts of the parking lot so attendees will not get confused and run through the ceremony area as they look for parking. Guests should start arriving anytime after 0845 hrs. The ceremony begins at 1000 hrs and should be over by 1130 hrs give or take a few minutes. From 1130 - 1200 + hrs there will be food and beverages. As of right now, we have the following vehicles to be displayed - - WWII Halftrack, M151A2 jeep, M35 (Chuck Shook); USAF Tug & USAF M35 (Junior Shove); USCG WWII jeep (Vernon Harris); a WWII WC64 Knockdown ambulance (Mike Ware), and a WWII jeep (Alan Morehead). Anyone else wanting to bring a vehicle needs to let me know asap - display/parking area is limited! We also need anyone able to dress out in period uniforms - particularly WWII, Korea, and Vietnam - to let me know soonest! You may email me or call me on my cell . Thanks!

(2) Saturday & Sunday, 6 - 7 February '10: SC Arms Collectors Association Gun Show at the Carolina First Center in Greenville (by the downtown airport). The MHCC will be supporting this event with a vehicle and weapons display. If you plan on bringing a vehicle please contact Eddie Davis at edavis24pdr@bellsouth.net or call "#'s are on the roster"). Again, space is somewhat limited at this event so we need to coordinate the vehicles to ensure there's a good "mix". Those of you wanting to display weapons, please contact Gerry Jones and let him know what you plan to bring (wgerryj@innova.net or call "#'s are on the roster") The emphasis for this event will be weapons; however, there will be room for uniforms and field equipment - especially bayonets and other gear associated with weapons. So again, please let Gerry and/or Eddie know what you plan to bring.

March: Date has not been set yet; however, we will have a club meeting on a Saturday in March. Will get time, date, location, out real soon but please watch for it! This will be an informative meeting concerning some simple (but appropriate) procedures and protocols we will need to start implementing as the club grows and matures.

Saturday, 17 April '10: The MHCC has been invited to set up a vehicle and military equipment display at the Pickens County Azalea Festival in Pickens, SC starting at 0900 hrs. They have specifically requested WWII, Korea, and Vietnam displays. More will come out on this one as we approach the date but please go ahead and put it on your calendars.

Friday - Sunday, 7-9 May '10: The MHCC has been invited to the "ShawFest" at Shaw AFB. The point of contact on this event will be Mike Keller - we have plenty of time to prep on this one but let Mike know if you'll be attending and what you'll be bringing. Mike will be getting the details soon; however, in the past the USAF has taken good care of the participants. (Call Mike Keller or email him at mbkeller2@bellsouth.net) Again more will come out on this one as we approach the date.

Reference our 501-C3 initiative for federal tax-exempt status: I had a very successful session with a lawyer here in Spartanburg who donated his time to help us out. He reviewed the application and associated paperwork in detail and made some additional recommendations. A little more work still has to be done but I think I'll be able to submit the application within the next 10 - 14 days. Good news is that the lawyer said he could see no reason why the application would not be approved!

Again, I remind everyone to checkout the club website at www.milhcc.com. Mike and Kathleen have really done a good job getting it up and running and continue to make improvements daily. Check with Mike Ware if you have any pictures you want to post, any parts and/or equipment you want to post to sell or that you may be looking for to complete a project. As a club member you can use the website to post information or ask questions, etc.. Call Mike or email colware@bellsouth.net (phone #'s are on the roster)

Also, just a reminder to everyone. As part of the application for non-profit/tax exempt status, we changed our fiscal year from 1 May thru 30 Apr the following year to 1 Jan thru 31 Dec of the same year; ie, our fiscal year now coincides with the calendar year.. This was at the lawyer's suggestion/recommendation and will make the required annual reports much easier to compile and file. Having said that we need to shift our membership dues accordingly. So dues for 2010 are "due". Since we had to change the by-laws to reflect the change in the fiscal year, 2010 will be a transition year so I believe it would be appropriate to stretch the "due date" (1 Feb 2010) to 31 Mar 2010. This will allow a majority of members to pay their dues at the club meeting to be scheduled in March '10. Those of you wanting to pay your dues now certainly may do so by mailing them to either myself or Martin Isetts, the club treasurer. Annual dues are $ 10.00 and checks should be made out to " MHCC " - please do not send cash through the mail. You may also catch me or Martin at one of the upcoming events!

Lastly, any club who is not already a member of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) is encouraged to join - it's an international club with over 10000 members that caters to and supports military vehicle enthusiasts worldwide.
I'll have information with me at our events so if you're interested let me know.

Okay everyone - that's it for now. Hope to see you at one of the upcoming events and of course at our meeting coming up in March '10!

Greetings again to all! As the year winds down to an end, I just wanted to put out a few things - - -

First, thanks to Jamie Neal for all his work setting up and coordinating the gun show this past weekend. It was an overwhelming success with several hundred people looking over the MHCC exhibit during the two days. And for those of you who do not know, the MHCC exhibit came in third place as the best exhibit! (and this came with a $75.00 prize for our club!) At least 24 members of the club participated or visited the MHCC exhibit! So for Jamie Neal, Gerry Jones, John Andrews, Brian & Susan Illner, Junior Shove, Michelle Thomason, Toby Wacker, Charlie Brickett, Scott Mattison, Eddie & Pam Davis and Doug Imes who brought displays and helped set up - thanks a bunch! Couldn't have done it without your efforts. And for the other members, Chuck Shook, Jonathon Fowler, Brent Pinson, Sid Rutledge, Larry Camp, Martin Isetts, Don Klyce, and Don Bryant thanks for attending and checking the exhibit out! Special thanks also to Martin for his photos of the event to record what the MHCC provided.

There will be another gun show sometime in February; same place and same basic set-up. For this event we will probably concentrate on "weapons" however; we certainly should also continue with other displays as well; ie, period uniforms, vehicles, and field equipment. More will come out on this as we approach the date so please put this one on your calendars! This particular show is an outstanding way to present the public with what we are all about.

Next, we would like to welcome two new members to the MHCC: Charles Bruce and hios son Chad. Both are members of the SCACA and reside in Easley, SC. I had a very nice conversation with both of them and they are very enthused about the MHCC and what we are doing. Looking forward to working with them both in the future.

Our next scheduled event (at least at the present) will be the grand opening of the new VA clinic here in Spartanburg on Monday, 25 January 2010. It will be at the new clinic in the North Grove Medical Park off Highway 9 just short of business 85 (when heading north on highway 9). The event is currently scheduled to begin at 1000 hrs and go to about 1200 hrs. There will be a 300+ heated tent, music, food & beverages, and several guest speakers. The MHCC will provide a "military" backdrop in the form of vehicle displays and members in period uniforms. More to follow on this one as we get closer to the date. I know Monday will be a work day but please put it on your calendars and support it if you are able.

And again, don't forget to chech out our website at milhcc.com. Mike & Kathleen are continuing to work hard at making this a first class website! Thank guys!

Lastly, my wife Linda and I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas with family and friends and a great, healthy, safe, and prosperous New Year in 2010!

Greetings to all! Just have alittle info to pass out to everyone:

First, thanks to everyone who participated in all the parades this past weekend. I know there were three parades basically at the same time; ie, Boiling Springs, Fairplay, and Westminster. And, at least on Sunday the weather was bad - so for those of you who were able to support those parades many thanks! (when you have a chance someone please send me details of the Westminster parade - thx!)

Second, just a reminder about the gun show this coming weekend. Jamie Neal has it well under control and I believe many of you have already coordinated with him for attendance, displays, vehicles, etc... Just be careful about the weather and travelling - supposed to be some winter weather coming in this weekend!

Third, this is a "warning order": The MHCC has been asked to support the grand opening of the new Veterans Affairs Clinic here in Spartanburg on Monday, 25 January 2010. We've been asked to set up vehicle displays and have members in period uniforms. More details will follow as we get closer to the date; however, the event is scheduled to start at 1000 hrs and be over NLT 1200hrs. There will be a heated tent for 300+ people, food, beverages, music, and several guest speakers. So please put this one on your planning calendars - its a workday so that will of course make it difficult for many of our members to participate.

Fourth, one of our club members, Ed Sims, found two (2) M725 Ambulances over near Auburn AL. They appear to be in good shape - they look good and seem to have all or most of their parts. Ed did not get a chance to look at the in detail; however, anyone interested may contact him or Gerry Jones for more info.

Ed Sims: email: wehali@msn.com

Gerry Jones: email: wgerryj@innova.net (phone #'s are in members section thru about us at www.milhcc.com)

Lastly, if I do not get to see you at the gun show this weekend, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year!

Pres, MHCC

High Priority message: Reference the parade in Pickens, SC scheduled for this coming Sunday (13 Dec 09) - - - - due to an administrative glich, the MHCC will not be participating as a group. Basically, there was a misunderstanding with the parade application and the fees. Not a problem - we tried but it just didn't work out.

Those of you who are able and willing are encouraged to attend the Westminster, SC parade also scheduled on Sunday with a 1330 hr lineup time with a parade start at 1430 hrs. The form-up site is at the Baptist Church parking lot which I believe is on Route 24 about 1/2 mile south of Hwy 127. Recommend anyone wanting to attend contact Alan Morehead or his son, Cam, at mmracin@bellsouth.net for more details/directions.

That's all for now! Be safe out there!

Greetings to all! Some information to pass along quickly -

First, great parade in Seneca, SC this past Monday evening. Alot of folks turned out to watch the combination Christmas and Veteran's Parade. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend: Charlie Bricket, Alan Morehead and his son Cam, Gerry Jones, Junior Shove, Todd Campos, James Nix, Martin Isetts, our club chaplain Henry Merrill and our newest club member, Michelle Thomason! (If I missed anyone I apologize).

This Saturday we have two parades; the one in Boiling Springs, SC and one in Fairplay, SC. All the info was given out for the Boiling Springs parade in my last net call; however, the Fairplay, SC parade just came up so if you're available and interested please contact Alan Morehead or his son Cam at mmracin@bellsouth.net respectively. Phone is in the members section at milhcc.com

There will also be two parades on Sunday. One in Pickens, SC and one in Westminster, SC. Again, the details for the Pickens parade were put out in my last net call - except for the line-up and start times which are 1300 hrs and 1530 hrs respectively. For the Westminster parade please contact Alan Morehead or his son Cam (see above)

And of course, the SC Arms Collector Assn show is rapidly approaching; ie, 19-20 Dec09. I covered all the details in my last net call. It is important that you coordinate with Jamie Neal if you plan to attend and bring "stuff" as we have limited space (I believe space for 5-6 vehicles and about 6-7 tables) and need to plan properly so everyone can squeeze in! So let Jamie know soonest!

Again, everyone needs to check out our web site at milhcc.com. Mike and Kathleen are working on it daily and making improvemenmts as fast as they can. When you want to get into the "restricted" part of the website just email me for the proper username and password - I do not want to broadcast it in a net call at this time. Eventually, we will be set up for individual usernames and passwords - that is the plan anyway.

Okay everyone. Have a great weekend - hope you will be able to get out to one of the events we're supporting! Take care!

Greetings all. Trust everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday and a chance to celebrate with family and friends.

This is just a quick update for everyone. We have a couple of events coming up and I just wanted to make sure the word gets out. Before that though, just want to thank Junior Shove and Todd Campos for all the work they've done supporting the "Country Santa" over in Pickens. I do not have a final report yet; however, the initiative is a great success. Thanks guys!

Also, for those of you who have not yet had the opportunity, recommend you take a look at the MHCC website at www.milhcc.com. Mike and Kathleen have done a great job pulling the website together and making it functional. They've got photos of recent events, copies of the net calls, a roster of members (but you have to sign up for that - follow the instructions) and they are continuing to make upgrades almost daily! Thanks to both of them on behalf of the club!

Okay - upcoming events:

Monday, 7 Dec 09: Christmas (and Veteran's Day) parade in Seneca, SC. Parade is set for 1800 hrs in downtown Seneca. MHCC member Alan Morehead is taking the lead on this one so if you're going please let him know Phone #'s are in members area at www.milhcc.com (check under about us / members)

Saturday, 12 Dec 09: Christmas parade at Boiling Springs, SC. Parade set to start at 1000 hrs so get there before that so you can get lined up properly. Eddie & Pam Davis are leading this one so please let them know if you will be there and with what. Contact them at edavis24pdr@bellsouth.net. Remember, please try to help Pam & Eddie out with the parade fee by donating $5.00. Phone #'s are in members area at www.milhcc.com (check under about us / members)

Sunday, 13 Dec 09: Christmas parade in Pickens, SC. The MHCC has been asked to lead the parade which starts in downtown Pickens. I will have to transmit the start time to everyone as soon as I can confirm it; however, having said that it is on a Sunday so I would assume it would be in the early afternoon so as not to conflict with church times. Will get the exact time out ASAP along with the point of contact so stay tuned!

Saturday & Sunday, 19-20 Dec09: SC Arms Collectors Association Gun Show at the Carolina First Center in Greenville, SC (adjacent to the downtown airport). The MHCC has again been invited to provide vehicles/displays/uniforms, etc.. This is always a good event with literally hundreds of people stopping by to look at our displays. Jamie Neal has the lead on this project. Please contact him and coordinate what you want to bring. We are somewhat confined for space so that will limit the number of vehicles, tables, etc.. Coord with Jamie so he can squeeze everyone in who wants to attend/display. Jamie at: james.neal@amec.com. or Phone #'s are in members area at www.milhcc.com (check under about us / members)

For sale: Gerry Jones has a line on an M37. The body is good. There are two engines - one for parts and the other a rebuild. There is no canvas and no spare tire. All the small stuff seems to be there - a good reasonable project for some member. Asking price is $ 4000.00 - may be possible to negotiate! If you're interested contact Gerry at wgerryj@innova.net or the seller, Charlie Briggs Jr, Lavonia, GA at 706-356-8609.

Okay everyone, that's it for now. Hope to see you as these next events! Till then - be careful out there!

Greetings to all! Time for another update -

The first part of November was a busy time for the MHCC. There were alot of historical/veterans events to support starting Saturday, 7 Nov 09 and running through Saturday, 14 November 09.

During that time the MHCC supported the following:

               - two (2) major museum events (one in Greenville, SC for the UpCountry Museum on Saturday & Sunday, 7-8 Nov 09 and one in Spartanburg, SC for the Spartanburg County Regional Museum on Saturday, 7 Nov 09).

               - the Spartanburg County Veteran's Parade in Spartanburg, SC and two (2) elementary school veteran's displays - one in Fountain Inn, SC and the other in Pickens, SC, all on Veteran's Day, Wednesday, 11 Nov 09.

               - another elementary school veteran's display at the James M. Brown Elementary School in Walhalla, SC on Thursday, 12 Nov 09.

              - the USNR Mobile Construction Battalion, Detachment 0324 Family Day event in Greenville, SC and the Oconee Veteran's Museum (at Patriot's Hall) Fund Raiser in Walhalla, SC, both events on Saturday, 14 Nov 09.

Thanks to all those members who came out to support these worthwhile events! It speaks well of the type of folks we have in the MHCC! Job well done!!

Couple of things to pass along to the club for information:

Country Santa: Todd Campos and Junior Shove are taking the lead on a project to support the Pickens Country Santa - a project to collect toys for disadvantaged children in the area. The MHCC is supporting this effort as a community service. Members interested in assisting/participating should contact either Todd Campos at
tattoo45@yahoo.com or Junior Shove at jrshove@yahoo.com for details. Phone #'s are in members area at www.milhcc.com (check under about us / members) They will be setting up at the Pickens, SC Flea Market on Wednesday, 25 Nov 09 and Saturday, 28 Nov 09 from 0745 to 1300 hrs [flea market is on Hwy 183 approx one mile outside of Pickens when heading towards Six Mile]. They may also be setting up on Wednesday, 2 Dec 09 - same place. If you elect to collect toys in your area and bring them to Todd and/or Junior, please ensure the toys are new-in-the-package and not wrapped!

                   Up-Coming Events:

Saturday, 21 Nov 09: This is a last minute event. Evidently, Clemson University is conducting a "Military Appreciation Day" this coming weekend. Planning is last minute at best. The event is set to start at 0900 hrs on Bowmen Field (in front of clock tower/Tillman Hall). Realize its late and last minute; however, if you're interested contact Alan Morehead: (Event may or may not include pass to game later in afternoon).

Monday, 7 Dec 09: Seneca, SC Veteran's Parade. The original parade (set for Veteran's Day) was postponed and will now be combined with the town Christmas Parade. Parade time is set for 1800 hrs. Contact Alan Morehead for more details - also if you plan on being there. (Know its late in the day and a good drive for some; hopefully, some of us can get over there to support the parade). Alan Morehead: Phone #'s are in members area at

Saturday, 12 Dec 09: Boiling Springs, SC Christmas Parade. Always a good parade! Eddie & Pam Davis have the lead on this one. Please let them know if you'll be able to attend. (Eddie & Pam at edavis24pdr@bellsouth.net.) Phone #'s are in members area at www.milhcc.com (check under about us / members) Believe parade is set to start at 1000 hrs. Please remember to help Eddie & Pam out with the parade fee - normally if everyone puts in $5.00 the fee is more than adequately covered (Eddie & Pam cover the registration fee out of their own pockets)

Saturday & Sunday, 19 - 20m Dec 09: South Carolina Gun Collector's Association Show at the Carolina First Center in Greenville, SC (at downtown airport). The MHCC has again been asked to provide a display of vehicles and equipment. Jamie Neal has the lead on this one. Please contact him at
james.neal@amec.com and let him know what you will be able to provide (we'er limited on the number/type of vehicles we can bring so clear that with Jamie please). Phone #'s are in members area at www.milhcc.com (check under about us / members) The emphasis will be on "signal"; however, any historical displays will undoubtedly be welcomed - again please coordinate with Jamie so he can properly plan the "footprint" for all the displays!

Something to be on the lookout for: The Belleview, Florida Military Vehicle Show scheduled for the first part of February 2010. The MHCC might have a group that would like to attend. Supposedly, this is the largest show of its kind in the southeast. Keep it on your calendars and as we get closer to the date, we'll see if we can pull a group together!

Lastly, Gerry Jones has come across a collection of old military vehicles the owner of which has the desire to liquidate his collection. The following vehicles are in the collection - all of which are in "good or better" condition. If you're interested, contact Gerry
wgerryj@innova.net for details: Phone #'s are in members area at www.milhcc.com (check under about us /

Good News & Thank You

Posted November 9, 2009

Greetings to All ! Just a short note before the parade(s) Wednesday and the SeaBee Family Day this coming Saturday:

First welcome to several new members who have joined the MHCC since my last net call! Henry Merrill from Easley, SC; James Nix from Pickens, SC; Richard Conner from Spartanburg, SC; John Fowler (Jonathan's Dad) from Spartanburg; Todd Campos from the Easley area, and John Graham from Spartanburg! Welcome to all - look forward to working with you!

Second - for everyone's information - the MHCC has now been officially registered as a "Charitable Organization" in the state of South Carolina. This means we are and official charitable organization and can now legally collect donations. We now can proceed with becoming a "tax-exempt organization; ie, 501-C3 at the federal level. I'll be working on that soonest!

Okay folks - there are three parades on Wednesday for the Veterans:

1) Spartanburg, SC: line-up starting at 1500 hrs on Marion Street (off South Church Street / vicinity of the swim center). Parade starts at 1600 hrs. The MHCC is unit # 14. I'll be there at or before 1500 to help everyone get lined up. Should be no problem! Parade ends at the Memorial Auditorium as in the past. If you are "trailering" you might want to spot the trailer on the street next to the auditorium -- down from the old Krispy Creme -- and then drive down to Marion Street - that way at the end of the parade you can just load up and go (traffic sometimes gets tight trying to get around the downtown area during and right after the parade).

2) Easley, SC: Believe the start time is the same as Spartanburg's but not positive. If you're going to support the Easley, SC parade contact Gerry Jones for details/directions wgerryj@innova.net It's a long drive to Spartanburg so if you're closer to Easley by all means support their parade - no problem, we will have sufficient vehicles for the Spartanburg parade.

3) Chessnee, SC: start time is the same as for Spartanburg to the best of my knowledge. Believe we have one vehicle going to support that parade; however, if you're interested contact Brad Wall at brad5811@hotmail.com.

Thanks to all of you that came out to the events this past Saturday. I started out at Spartanburg Regional Museum then went for a quick visit to the UpCountry Museum in Greenville. Both events were great - heard nothing but great comments from everyone. MHCC really helped make good shows into great shows! Thanks to Chuck Shook; Curtis Camp; Pam & Eddie Davis; Richard Conner; Vern Harris; Chris Rucker; Jonathan Fowler and his dad, John; Jerry Kiehl; Martin Isetts; Phillip Cato; and John Graham in Spartanburg!

And thanks to Kevin Coker; Susan & Brian Illner; Sam Cooper; Jamie Nea;, Ross Mashburn; Dog Imes; James Nix; Junior Shove; and Todd Campos in Greenville!

Great job - all!! (If I left anyone out its because I forgot to write down your name and/or I had a "senior moment!" )

Lastly, Saturday, 14 Nov 09: NMCB 24 Detachment 0324 SeaBee Family Day. The location is at the Elks Lodge on Pelham Road [directions- from Spartanburg, take I85 towards Greenville. At the Pelham Road exit (by the Michelin Headquarters exit) right but then go left back over I 85 south on Pelham about one mile. The elks lodge is on the right.] I'll be there by 0930 hrs. Everyone should try to get there by 1030 hrs at the latest so we can get set up - the family day is scheduled to start at 1100 hrs and is slated to go until 1500 hrs. You are encouraged to bring vehicles/equipment & weapons/uniforms. This event is not open to the public so we are not as restricted as at other events. They will have food for us. Assuming the weather cooperate, this will be another great event and one where you can talk with young sailors who have just returned from Iraq.

Hope everyone gets to come out - this one supports active duty folks and their families. Active duty floks are veterans too! See you there!!!

(phone #'s in members area on roster)
That's all for now! Be safe out there!

Greetings to all!

Ed Sims: email: wehali@msn.com Phone #'s are in Members page thru About Us section
Gerry Jones: email: wgerryj@innova.net

Lastly, if I do not get to see you at the gun show this weekend, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year!

Message To MHCC Members: Reference Eddie & Pam Davis' earlier email concerning the Boiling Springs Christmas Parade - clarafication on the "fee":

The MHCC has marched /participated in this parade for several years. This a great event and is always well received by the people.

Yes, there is a "fee" to enter the parade and in the past Eddie & Pam Davis have always covered it. However, since the MHCC organized as a club there has always been sufficient MHCC members in attendance that if each member gives $5.00 to Eddie & Pam, the entrance fee does not come out of their pocket. This has not been a problem in the past to the best of my knowledge. In this way only those MHCC members who elect to participate in this event share the fee and it does not come out of the club's finances. This seems to be a fair and equitable way to handle these type situations.

Hope this explains what is being done for this event!

Like I've said this is one of the better parades (at least that I've been to) - particularly if the weather is nice! Hope to see you all there!

OCT 2009

Greetings/Salutations To All -

Time for another "net-call" to bring everyone up to speed on club initiatives and upcoming events!

First, as of 6 October 2009, the MHCC has officially been approved and designated as a "non-profit corporation - domestic" in the State of South Carolina. This means the MHCC, as a legal entity, now officially exists!

Additionally, the application for registration as a "charitable organization" has been forwarded to the Secretary of State for South Carolina. Once registered, we will be able to solicit donations as a non-profit. (For those few donations we received at Triple Tree, we informed the public that we were not yet a "credentialed non-profit" so the people making the donations did so with that knowledge.)

The next step is to submit our application to be declared a "tax-exempt organization" with the IRS. Once approved, club members in good standing will be able to deduct some of their expenses supporting public events. This will take several months once submitted - and since the application is 29 pages long, we will have to be very meticulous preparing it! (my problem!)

Second; I want to thank Mike & Kathleen Ware they have done a great job re-vitalizing the website to make it more efficient, more user friendly, and a convenient tool we can all use.! Its still a work in progress and we will continue to "tweak it". Thanks again to Mike & Kathleen.

      Okay, now for upcoming events:

Saturday, 24 October 09: The MHCC has agreed to support the Spartanburg County Parks & Recreation Commission at the Spartanburg County Heritage Festival. Part of Spartanburg's heritage revolves around Camp Croft - that's where the MHCC fits in. We have been asked to provide a vehicle/equipment display at the new county park location in Chesnee, SC. I have told them that we should be able to provide about 5-6 vehicles along with some folks in period uniforms.

The time is from 1000hrs thru 1800 hrs (though I expect it to shut down a little earlier due to darkness). Location is at the new county park site in Chesnee, SC. (Directions: go north on Route 221 out of Spartanburg over I-85. Just short of Lake Blalock look for a traffic light (at Deb's quik stop/gas station); at the light make a left and go about 1 1/2 - 2 miles and you will come to an intersection - there will be a large church to your right front. Cross the intersection and with the church on your right, make a left just as you pass the church - there should be signs out but call me if you have difficulties .

Please let me know as soon as possible what vehicles/equipment/uniforms you will be bringing so I can coordinate with the parks & recreation folks for enough space! Thanks!

Saturday & Sunday, 7-8 November 09: UpCountry Museum, Greenville, SC: the MHCC has been asked by the UpCountry Museum to provide vehicle/equipment/ uniform displays for their tribute to veterans. This is scheduled as a two (2) day event; ie, 1000-1700hrs on Saturday and 1300-1700hrs on Sunday. Since we also have an event in Spartanburg the same day, we have to divide our forces! It would be convenient, if the MHCC members in the Greenville area could support the Upcountry Museum event leaving the Spartanburg area folks to support the other event that day. Sam Cooper has agreed to take the lead on the UpCountry Museum event so please contact him and let him know who will be there and with what equipment/uniforms, etc.. [Sam Cooper: scooper2@charter.net ]

Saturday, 7 November 09: Spartanburg County Regional Museum will be wrapping up its tribute to veterans display which has been on-going since August. They have asked the MHCC to provide vehicle/equipment/uniform displays from 1000-1800 hrs to the rear of the museum at the Chapman Cultural Center in downtown Spartanburg. I have tentatively told the museum they should expect 6-7 (plus) vehicles for this event along with members in period uniforms. Again, because of two events on the same day, we need to divide our forces! Chuck Shook has been attending the museum planning meetings for the MHCC. We need to get a count of who will be there with what equipment so we can plan the parking layout. Please let Chuck know if you will be able to support this event. [Chuck: dumplin1a@charter.net

Since we're being "stretched' to support both events we need everyone's support to the extent that you can adjust your schedules/family events. These are both "high visibility events" for the MHCC. Supporting these type events is what the MHCC does (and we do it well!) and our local communities (and veterans) depend on us!

Wednesday, 11 November 09: Spartanburg County Veteran's Day Parade. The MHCC always does a great job supporting this one. We line up on Marion Avenue in downtown Spartanburg (by the Mt. Moriah Church) at 1500 hrs. The parade starts at 1600 hrs and normally lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. I've told the parade planners that we will need 8 to 10 spaces; however, if we run more than that we will just "double park" during our line-up - no problem. Please let me know who we be attending and what vehicles you will be bringing as soon as you can - just need to get a feel for our line-up. [Wayne: wlscholtes@charter.net ]

Saturday, 14 November09: The MHCC has been asked by Naval Construction Battalion 24, Detachment 0324 to provide vehicle/equipment/uniform displays at their family day celebration in Greenville, SC. The unit has just recently returned from Iraq. The displays are requested from 1100-1500 hrs at the Elks Lodge, 7700 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC [from Greenville, take the Pelham Road exit, make a right turn, and the Elks Lodge is about a mile down the road on the right].

Since this is a reserve component unit just recently returned from deployment overseas, I believe the MHCC should support this one in a big way! Get a little inter-service operability here since most of our stuff is army!!!! Hooah!!! (or Ooo-rah for you marines!!!)

I'll be taking the lead on this one so please let me know as soon as you can who will be able to attend and what vehicles/equipment/uniforms you will bring. All period uniforms would be appropriate.

Lastly - Warning Order: The Boiling Springs Christmas parade will be coming up in early December. It's a great parade and the MHCC has always supported it in great fashion. Normally we form up around 0900-1000 hrs with the parade starting about an hour later. More to come on this one but put it on your calendars. MHCC participants are usually asked to kick in around $ 5.00 each to pay the parade fee (up to a couple of years ago, Eddie & Pam Davis were covering the fee; however, since we are now a real club, and since we are always so well received at the parade, we ask that each MHCC participant help Eddie & Pam.)

Also, we expect to be asked by the South Carolina Gun Collector's Association, to provide a vehicle/equipment/uniform display at their December gun show in Greenville, SC. More to follow on this one but please keep it in mind too. Its a great event, in that it is indoors, secure, and we always have a lot of folks stop by our tables. Not sure who has the lead on this one; however, we have a lot of time to coordinate this event!!

Okay folks that's it for now (that's enough isn't it!). Take care and please let each of the POC's know what you will be able to provide in support of these events. Look forward to seeing you all soon!
