Greenville Gun Show

Posted February 4, 2010

Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 10:58 PM

Gun show in Greenville, SC this coming weekend:

Most of you already know the location but if not it's at the Carolina First Center by the downtown airport in Greenville, SC.  Most of you have already coordinated with Eddie Davis (vehicles) and/or Gerry Jones (weapons) - based on that, we should have a good turn-out.  Note the "focus" will be on weapons; however, other military displays would not be out of place; ie, uniforms, field equipment, weapons accessories, etc..

IMPORTANT:  If you are attending and are bringing displays and have not already contacted Eddie or Gerry - do so ASAP!  They need to plan the space and get sufficient tables ready

All members are welcome to attend - we will need folks to help watch the displays and give the members who will be there most of the day a break every once in awhile.  I believe the gates open at around 0900 and close at 1800 on Saturday and then open again on Sunday around 1000 and close at 1700.

Heads up

Monday, 25 January '10:  The MHCC is supporting the grand opening of the new VA Clinic here in Spartanburg. We have been asked to be in place and set up no later than 0800 hrs. The plan is to use the display vehicles to block parts of the parking lot so attendees will not get confused and run through the ceremony area as they look for parking.  Guests should start arriving anytime after 0845 hrs.  The ceremony begins at 1000 hrs and should be over by 1130 hrs give or take a few minutes.   From 1130 - 1200 + hrs there will be food and beverages.   As of right now, we have the following vehicles to be displayed - -   WWII Halftrack, M151A2 jeep, M35 (Chuck Shook); USAF Tug & USAF M35 (Junior Shove); USCG WWII jeep (Vernon Harris); a  WWII WC64 Knockdown ambulance (Mike Ware), and a WWII jeep (Alan Morehead).  Anyone else wanting to bring a vehicle needs to let me know asap - display/parking area is limited!  We also need anyone able to dress out in period uniforms - particularly WWII, Korea, and Vietnam - to let me know soonest!  You may email me or call me on my cell . All #'s are on the roster. Thanks!

BIG THANKS!!

Posted December 23, 2009

First, thanks to Jamie Neal for all his work setting up and cooordinating the gun show this past weekend.  It was an overwhelming success with several hundred people looking over the MHCC exhibit during the two days.  And for those of you who do not know, the MHCC exhibit came in third place as the best exhibit!  (and this came with a $75.00 prize for our club!)  At least 24 members of the club participated or visited the MHCC exhibit!  So for Jamie Neal, Gerry Jones, John Andrews, Brian & Susan Illner, Junior Shove, Michelle Thomason, Toby Wacker, Charlie Brickett, Scott Mattison,  Eddie & Pam Davis and Doug Imes who brought displays and helped set up - thanks a bunch! Couldn't have done it without your efforts.  And for the other members, Chuck Shook, Jonathon Fowler, Brent Pinson, Sid Rutledge, Larry Camp, Martin Isetts, Don Klyce, and Don Bryant thanks for attending and checking the exhibit out!

Special thanks also to Martin for his photos of the event to record what the MHCC provided.

And again, don't forget to chech out our website at milhcc.com.  Mike & Kathleen are continuing to work hard at making this a first class website!  Thank guys!

Grand Opening of VA Clinic EVENT

Posted December 23, 2009

Our next scheduled event (at least at the present) will be the grand opening of the new VA clinic here in Spartanburg on Monday, 25 January 2010.  It will be at the new clinic in the North Grove Medical Park off Highway 9 just short of business 85 (when heading north on highway 9).  The event is currently scheduled to begin at 1000 hrs and go to about 1200 hrs.  There will be a 300+ heated tent, music, food & beverages, and several guest speakers.  The MHCC will provide a "military" backdrop in the form of vehicle displays and members in period uniforms.  More to follow on this one as we get closer to the date.  I know Monday will be a work day but please put it on your calendars and support it if you are able.

Welcome New Members

Welcome two new members to the MHCC:  Charles Bruce and his son Chad. Glad you can join us!

Warning Order

Posted December 18, 2009

The MHCC has been asked to support the grand opening of the new Veterans Affairs Clinic here in Spartanburg on Monday, 25 January 2010.  We've been asked to set up vehicle displays and have members in period uniforms.  More details will follow as we get closer to the date; however, the event is scheduled to start at 1000 hrs and be over NLT 1200hrs.  There will be a heated tent for 300+ people, food, beverages, music, and several guest speakers.  So please put this one on your planning calendars - its a workday so that will of course make it difficult for many of our members to participate.

The SC Arms Collector Assn show (REMINDER)

Posted December 10, 2009

The SC Arms Collector Assn show is rapidly approaching; ie, 19-20 Dec09.  I covered all the details in my last net call.  It is important that you coordinate with Jamie Neal if you plan to attend and bring "stuff" as we have limited space (I believe space for 5-6 vehicles and about 6-7 tables) and need to plan properly so everyone can squeeze in!  So let Jamie know soonest! (see net call newsletter page)

Posted November 3, 2009

Greetings to MHCC! Just a few reminders and a couple of info/news items:

First off, we have a busy week coming up with two (2) events on Saturday, 7 Nov 09, then the Veteran's Parade on Wednesday, 11 Nov 09, and then the Navy SeaBee Family Day on Saturday, 14 Nov 09.

Ref Saturday, 7 nov 09 (Greenville, SC) : for the UpCountry Museum event please contact Sam Cooper (if you have not already done so) and let him know that you will be attending and with what equip/vehicle/uniform.  scooper2@charter.net]  If you cannot make contact with Sam, check with Doug Imes  dougimes@yahoo.com]  (phone #'s are in members page)

Ref Saturday, 7 Nov 09 (Spartanburg, SC) : for the Spartanburg Regional Museum event please let me know if you will be attending and with what equip/vehicle/uniform. Need as many vehicles, equipment displays, and period uniforms as possible. We also need to be set up ready to go before 1000hrs so please let me know the soonest you can so we can plan a good layout and not have to "wing it" Saturday morning. wlscholtes@charter.net or via phone the #'s in the members page.

Ref Wednesday, 11 Nov 09 (Spartanburg, SC): the MHCC is unit (position) number 14 for the parade. We will line up on Marion Street (vicinity of the swim center and Mt Moriah Church (South Church Street). We should line-up beginning at 1500 hrs with the parade beginning at 1600 hrs. I'll be there NLT 1500 hrs to help with the line-up. We've been allotted six (6) spaces; however, we can use the space for the unit following us as they will line up in the church parking lot. We may also "double park" in two or three columns if we need to do so. I know alot of you will be attending; however, please give me a call to confirm so I can plan a reasonable/efficient line-up. If you are not bringing a vehicle, then come in civilian or a uniform - we will have plenty of seats for riders!

(Note: One of our club members (Brad Wall) has been asked by the city of Chesnee, SC to put his truck in their parade (also Wednesday afternoon.) He will not be able to make it; however, he is willing to let a club member use his vehicle in the parade. Contact Brad at brad5811@hotmail..com  if you think you can make it.)

Ref Saturday, 14 Nov 09 (Greenville, SC): This event will be for the US Navy SeaBee Unit stationed at Donaldson Center in support of their family day. This unit just returned from a deployment in Iraq. All MHCC members are encouraged to attend/support with vehicles, equip displays, & uniforms. Since this event is a boa-fide military event (not open to the public) those of you with weapon displays are encouraged to bring them.. The event is scheduled from 1100 hrs to 1500 hrs. We should all arrive and be set up prior to 1100 - recommend we shoot for 1030 hrs at the latest. Note: There will be food for us! At this point I do not have any "hard" confirmations, so if you will be able to attend this one please let me know soonest. There is adequate space there to display everything but again I need an idea of what will be brought so we can plan a good layout!

Directions: On I-85 take the Pelham Road exit (the exit by the Michelin HQs) and go south on Pelham Road about one (1) mile to the Elks Lodge (on the right). I'll be there early so if you have any problems that day call me on my cell.

For planning purposes, two more events: Saturday, 12 Dec 09 - the Boiling Spring Christmas Parade sponsored by the Jaycees and Saturday & Sunday, 19 & 20 Dec 09 the SC Arms Collectors Assn Gun Show in Greenville, SC. More will follow on these events as we get closer to the dates!

Lastly, Junior Shove, one of our club members, is assisting SSGT Todd Campos USMCR who is helping the widow of a former marine recently deceased. I will let Junior explain the situation in detail to you. Anyone wanting to assist/support Junior and SSGT Shove please contact Junior (phone # in members page)

That's all for now folks! hope to see many of you at the upcoming events!

Boiling Springs Christmas Parade

Posted October 29, 2009

Boiling Springs Christmas Parade, Sat. Dec 12, 2009 , Line up at 8:30 am Parade starts at 10am.

The MHCC has marched /participated in this parade for several years. This a great event and is always well received by the people.
Yes, there is a "fee" to enter the parade. Only those MHCC members who elect to participate in this event share the fee and it does not come out of the club's finances.

Those are who are wanting to attend please let Pam & Eddie know so we can get a count of how many vehicles will be participating.

This is one of the better parades - particularly if the weather is nice! Hope to see you all there!

Spartanburg Heritage Festival

Posted October 20, 2009

Greetings all!  Information update for this coming weekend's Spartanburg Heritage Festival:

Location:  Verified as not Chesnee.  LOCATION CHANGED TO BOILING SPRINGS PARK!!!  (Directions:  Go up Highway 9 towards Boiling Springs.  Between the "Clock Restaurant" and the "Firehouse Sub Shop", turn right on to Double Bridge Road.  Go about 1/2 mile - library will be on your right, go some more past large field and park will be on your right - marked with a sign.) I'll be there early to help get you positioned.

The event is open to the public at 1000 hrs so we should have all vehicles in place prior to that time - I say we shoot for 0930 hrs to be in place!

Emphasis is on WWII; however, the parks project officer said any/all vehicles welcome!

At this point I only have confirmation of vehicles from Chuck Shook (M151 jeep, the halftrack, and an M35 2 1/2 tn (towing the halftrack).  The MHCC really needs to get a couple of more vehicles there if we can, so see what you can do folks!  They're counting on us - and if you don't have a vehicle but have a period uniform (WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc., you're encouraged to wear it and participate as a walking display!

Again, if you are able to attend, please let me know asap!!!!!!

Thanks guys!  Hope to see many of you this Saturday!

December Gun Show

Posted October 16, 2009

I'd be glad to take the lead on the December Gun Show.  It's earlier
this year (Dec.5&6) than last year so there should be a good turnout and
not interfere with Christmas.  Several of us had talked about doing a
signal corps display (MV mounted and individual) so I'm copying everyone
to see what interest we might have and how much vehicle and table space
we might need. I was planning on bringing the scout car with the SCR506
setup and a WWII jeep with a SCR510.  Table display would be a SCR528,
SCR300 backpack, SCR536 handi-talkies, EE8 phones and SCR625 mine
detector.  It would be good to show the signal corps progression from
WWII, Korea, Vietnam and current.  Doug and Gerry, I know you guys have
a lot of radio gear so let me know what you would bring.

Thanks,
Jamie

Posted October 15, 2009

Just for information - the MHCC collected $ 53.74 in donations and we made $ 66.00 with our auction. Thanks for the recommendation to hold an auction (Gerry Jones and Martin Isetts) and thanks to Gerry who ran the action for us!
